Senate Bill 321, NRA-backed legislation sponsored by state
Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy), would prevent employers from enforcing policies
which prohibit their employees from transporting and storing firearms in their
locked private motor vehicles while parked on company property. SB 321,
NRA-ILA's top priority for the 2011 Texas legislative session, will be
considered by the Senate Criminal Justice Committee on Tuesday, March 1.
Hard-working Texans should not have to risk losing their jobs
because they want to protect themselves while commuting to and from work.
Hunters and competitive shooters should not be forced to leave their firearms at
home because companies with headquarters oftentimes located out of state (or
even out of the country) adopt policies that don't account for Texas' sporting
culture or state laws allowing law-abiding citizens to legally possess firearms
in their cars and trucks.
Big business and industry groups will pull out all the stops
to try and defeat this legislation, so it is critical that your state lawmaker
hears from you. Your state Senator, Dan Patrick, is a co-sponsor of this
legislation.

and thank him for his support for SB 321! Also, ask him to continue
supporting this legislation in its current form and oppose any gutting
amendments that would exempt certain industry sectors from the bill or allow
employers to impose onerous requirements on employees who wish to transport and
store firearms in their locked, private motor vehicles parked at work.
